WHO WE ARE

A Language Journey Built Around Your Child

Learning a language works best when it is structured, engaging and shared with friends. That is the idea behind every class at American Alif Academy.

In-Person by Design

Classes are held in person. Children learn with their peers through interactive classroom activities rather than one-way online lessons.

For Ages 5–15

Programs are designed for children and teens ages 5–15, from complete beginners starting Level 1 to advanced learners in the Arabic Club.

Independent and Language-Focused

The academy is not affiliated with any religion, political organization, or specific cultural group. The focus is exclusively on Arabic language learning in a welcoming environment that serves families from many backgrounds.

Fun and Structured

Positive encouragement, in-person interaction and a structured journey through Levels 1–4 and Arabic Club.
OUR FOUNDERS

Why American Alif Academy Exists

American Alif Academy was founded by Dr. Abdullah Alshawi, an educator and higher-education leader. The idea began when Dr. Alshawi searched for an in-person Arabic program for his own children.

Dr. Abdullah Alshawi — Founder

Many available options were online, which did not provide the interaction he believed young learners needed, or were offered primarily through religious settings rather than dedicated language programs. He wanted his children to experience Arabic in a positive, engaging environment where they could learn with friends, participate in activities, and develop a genuine appreciation for the language.

Attab Al-Sadoon — Dean of Academics

Dr. Alshawi partnered with Attab Al-Sadoon, Dean of Academics at American Alif Academy, who holds a master’s degree in Arabic language and brings more than 30 years of Arabic teaching experience in Iraq.
Together, they created a structured four-level program where children can build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Arabic while enjoying the learning experience.
